Kayaking

Costa Rica is recognized as one of the foremost kayaking destinations in the world. When the northern hemisphere is settling in for cold weather, Costa Rica’s eternal summer is peaking and the whitewater season is at its peak. The water is warm, whitewater is spectacular and the rivers run through lush forests filled with tropical flora and fauna. The temperatures run in the 80’s with afternoon and evening rain likely. Whatever your level of expertise, Costa Rica has the whitewater you are looking for. Exotur can connect you with kayaking experts who will treat you to a real whitewater adverture.

Canopy Tours

If flying over the treetops of a rainforest, hanging from a harness tied to ropes sounds like your kind of thing, then Costa Rica has a wide choice of canopy tours for you to pick from. In fact, Costa Rica was one of the originators of the sport as an off-shoot of work done by scientists wanting to study the forest from above. Some of the canopy courses are a thrill a minute while others are slower, quieter and offer the opportunity to see the rainforest below, and mix with hanging bridges and guided walks along jungle trails as part of the package.. We can tell you what is available from the highest platform to the longest rappel or an eco-themed treetop experience. Whatever you choose, it is an experience you will remember for a lifetime.

Whitewater Rafting

Because of the dominance of the mountain range running through the central part of the country and abundant annual rainfall (as much as 350 inches in parts of the country), Costa Rica has whitewater rivers as well as small watersheds with enough water to be able to paddle. Unlike North America, the flow for any particular month is quite reliable, making Costa Rica white water rafting an ideal destination. Rafting is an ideal, low impact on the environment sport that allows you to access some of the most remote parts of the country. We will connect you with licensed guides who will provide the best equipment as well as their expertise in making your river trip a real adventure.

Hiking

Hiking is still emerging as a sports attraction in Costa Rica, but the opportunities are limitless. There are wonderful trails in all the national parks and in natural areas. More and more trained guides are available to lead you safely through either rugged areas or for a less strenuous trek through mountains, coastal area or forests. We suggest going with a guide to ensure you safety and comfort. Longer, week longhiking and camping tours are available. Hiking is a wonderful way to see the country up close.

Hot Springs

Hot springs are geothermal waters that spring from the earth and are fed by river waters. Each mineral pool varies in temperature and depth. Costa Rica boasts some the best of these natural wonders. You will want to add the opportunity to visit one of our many hot spring resorts to your Costa Rica holiday.

Birding

Red MacawsCosta Rica is famous among serious birdwatcher the world over. We have more than 870 bird species including the much sought after Quetzals, Scarlet Macaws, Toucans and Motmots. With a knowledgeable guide who knows where to find some of the most elusive birds, you could see as many as 100 deferent species in a single day. Each of the different and diverse regions of the country ranging from dry tropical climates to humid lowlands has its own birding specialties so the possibilities are endless. Many of our customers come to Costa Rica just to see birds and most of them enjoy the many birds they spot along their travels. So whether you are a birdwatcher or you simply enjoy these wonderful creatures of nature, bird watching will be an important part of your stay here.

Surfing

One feature of Costa Rica surfing is the consistent head-high surf at any time of the year. It has areas suitable for groups, families or romantic couples. You could rent a car and try to follow the surf, but we do not recommend that. Different locations have seasons when the waves are best. We will make arrangements for you to pick the best location for the time of year that you want to come.

Scuba Diving

Scuba diving is a relatively new and emerging sport in Costa Rica, but today there are shops and first-class dive boats available. On the Pacific Coast, where there are a number of well-known sites, you can see a wide variety of deep sea creatures and explore sea life along cliff rocks. The Caribbean side has a spectacular protected coral reef famous as a scuba diving site. NOTE: LINK TO CARIBBEAN SIDE

Costa Rica Sport Fishing

Costa Rica is famous as a sportfishing and deep sea fishing destination. It holds over 79 world records to its credit. There is great fishing on both the Pacific and Caribbean sides. Expect to find marlin, sailfish, tuna, dorado, wahoo, rooseterfish and snook on the Pacific side. The Caribbean is famous for tarpon, snook and a number of other sport species. Of course, different fish run at different times of the year, but any time is the right time to come to go Costa Rica sport fishing.

Horseback Riding

A horseback tour is a wonderful way to see the untouched places in Costa Rica and an excellent opportunity for bird watching and spotting wildlife along the trail. Tours range from half-day to all-day expeditions. You can take your pick of a mountain tour, a trek through the rain forest, through pastures or down beaches. You will want to add a horseback riding tour to your Costa Rica itinerary.

Biking

Costa Rica biking

Next to soccer, biking is the second most popular sport in Costa Rica. Everywhere you go you will see serious biders pumping up steep hills and flying down mountainsides. In rural areas biking is a means of transportation. Whatever your level of expertise, biking is a wonderful way to see Costa Rica. You will experience a different Costa Rica from the one visible from the window of a tour bus or rental car. Bikes are readily available. Take a trail on your own or join a guided tour. You will not be sorry.
