San Jose is the bustling capital of Costa Rica, located in the Central Valley with its ideal climate. While the central downtown area may be a bit daunting for the first time visitor (or even for the 2nd or 3rd time visitor), the city has attracted a large diplomatic and international business community which have fostered a proliferation of upscale hotels and many fine eating establishments. The professional staff at Exotur knows San Jose like the backs of their hands. They will find you that wonderful little hotel, make reservations at the best restaurants, and guide you during your stay in San Jose.
Since San Jose is home to the largest international airport with the most flights, it will probably serve as your jumping off point when you arrive in Costa Rica and your last stop before you go home. We will take you on a private tour of the city that includes the historic district, the campus of the University of Costa Rica, and some of it most interesting neighborhoods. We do not recommend that you “go it alone” because none of the streets are marked and, like in any big cities, there are some neighborhoods that you do not want to wander into.
During your time in San Jose, you will want to see the National Museum with its fabulous pre-Columbian treasures and its exhibit outlining the history of Costa Rica. Another “must see” are the glittering exhibits at the Gold Museum. While in San Jose we can arrange a delightful trip to the Butterfly Farm and a delicious tour of the coffee growing area. If you are dazzled by tropical plants and flowers, we will take you to some of the most wonderful gardens you will ever see. |
